Pradaxa is the brand name version of the chemical dabigatran, a blood thinner prescribed to patients with atrial fibrillation in order to prevent blood clots, stroke and pulmonary embolism.
The German drug company Boehringer Ingelheim has sold Pradaxa in the United States since October of 2010. The company claims the drug has hit the blockbuster mark with over $1 billion in yearly sales and use in more than 70 countries.
